But how do we make the most of what we’re buying? Steak aficionado Adam North shares five key questions we should ask our butcher to get the most from our steak; 1. What's the origin of your meat? Knowing where your butcher is sourcing their meat will give you a good indication on whether you’re supporting local as well if it may have been frozen. 2. What’s the best way to cook this cut? No one will know the cut you’re buying better than the person who cut it. They may just be able to add that extra spice or different cooking style to take it up a notch. 3. What’s the best way to prepare this meat? Your butcher will know exactly what marinade to use on your meat or whether or not you should take it out of the fridge to bring to room temperature before cooking. 4. What are other similar cuts I should try? Test your butcher with this one and see if they can tick your steak boxes by suggesting a less familiar cut of a similar taste. 5. What cuts are best for smoking? Smoking your meat is a great way to add depth to the flavour of your steak as well as increase its tenderness. What else would you add to this list?
